Loretta Sue Blessard, 82, of Fincastle, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024.
Born on August 3, 1942, in West Virginia, Loretta devoted her life to her family, faith, and community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Hughes Eggers and Thelma Adams Eggers; her former husband, Douglas Blessard; sisters Barbara Eggers Bair and Karen Eggers Ball; and nephew, Gregory Steven Eggers.
Loretta is survived by her two loving sons, David Blessard (Lisa) and Jeff Blessard. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Scott Blessard (Heather), Danielle May (Gary), Rebekah Overstreet Blessard, and Amber Blessard, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Also left to honor her memory are brothers, Tim Eggers (Jackie), Greg Eggers (Alma), and her sister, Cathy Bell (William).
Loretta dedicated her professional life to serving others as a school bus driver for the Botetourt County school system. After serving the school system she dedicated her life as a registered orthopedic nurse. A devoted member of Colonial Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School, instilling her love for the Lord in younger generations.
Loretta loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all her heart. It was her desire to share her love with all she met. She never met a stranger. Her closest companion was her dog, Misty. They spent countless nights together reading and studying the Bible, with Misty never leaving her side.
In her free time, Loretta enjoyed reading and cherished time spent with her beloved grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life. Her faith in the Lord was unwavering, and she lived her life as a testament to kindness, compassion, and love.
Thank you, Mom, for your unconditional love, time, and full attention to all our needs as you saw fit through all the years. You were the prayer warrior for each one of us. We will miss your lemon dessert, potato rolls, prune cake, and all the sweet times around your dinner table filled with love and much laughter.
Sunday, December 15, a visitation will be at 2 p.m. with a memorial service at 3 p.m. at Fincastle Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Cummings officiating.
