On October 30, 2016, the Buchanan community lost a very special young man.
Trystan Lowdermilk, a James River senior, was killed in car accident on Route 11 in Buchanan.
As a tribute to Trystan, the Trystan Lowdermilk Memorial Scholarship was established. The scholarship will be given to a James River senior who plans on pursuing a career in the field of engineering/construction and demonstrates the outstanding character that Trystan was known for.
To fund this scholarship, Middle Creek Campground will host a bluegrass festival, “TrystanFest,” the weekend of May 5-7.
The festival will include Swamp Mountain Boys on Friday night at 7:30. Saturday’s music begins at noon and includes Haymakertown Express, Scott Joshaway, Blue Connection, New Corner Grocery Gang, Two Rivers and Mason Creek.
Sunday will be a gospel hour with Blue Connection at 10 a.m.
Also on Saturday will be corn hole tournament, bingo, face painting, a silent auction and food will be served.
All proceeds go to the scholarship fund. Tickets are available at the Stylin’ Shed on Main Street in Buchanan or at Middle Creek Campground in Arcadia.
