Last week, the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors recognized community members Garland Humphries and Debbie Painter of Buchanan.
Humphries served as the Buchanan District representative on the Botetourt County Parks and Recreation Commission from 1999-2021, which included numerous terms as commission chairman. During his tenure, Botetourt County commenced major renovations to numerous athletic facilities including building the Botetourt Sports Complex. His oversight and execution of the Recreation Incentive Fund led to over $1.5 million worth of improvements
“It’s been a privilege representing the Buchanan District and it’s been a honor working with a lot of the different people on the (parks and rec) commission,” Humphries mentioned. “It’s been a pleasure getting to know everyone personally.”
Painter owned and operated The North Star Restaurant in Buchanan for two decades (first working there as an employee beginning in 1977) and recently sold the business to Ashley Clark, who worked for Painter for the last 20 years. The supervisors expressed their admiration for Painter serving multiple generations of the Buchanan and Botetourt community.
