Botetourt County teams will participate in state indoor track meets next week, and they will actually be held indoors. Liberty University will host the Class 3 meet on Tuesday, March 2, and the Class 2 meet on Wednesday, March 3.
James River will compete in the Class 2 meet. The Knights were scheduled to run in an outdoor “Polar Bear” Region 2C meet at Auburn High School last week but that was postponed due to inclement weather. The meet was rescheduled for Tuesday of this week with the top three in each event advancing to the state.
Lord Botetourt athletes competed in the Region 3D meet Sunday at Hidden Valley High School, and again the top three in each category advanced. The Cavalier boys were third and the girls were fourth as Christiansburg swept the team titles.
First place winners for the boys included Joey Isaacs in the 55 Dash (6.96), Jacob Hodnett in the 300 (37.43), Bryson Cook in the 500 (1:12.71), Dylan Knick in the 55 Hurdles (8.88) and the 800-meter relay team in a time of 1:37.89 with the foursome of Isaacs, Jonah Clark, Knick and Hodnett.
The LB 3,200-meter relay team was second and Knick took third in the Long Jump.
For the girls, Lauren Duff won the 500 meters in 1:25.72 and Sydney Vokus won the 3,200 in 11:52.58. Seconds went to Brooklyn Hornback in the 500, Maddie Malue in the 55 Hurdles and the 1,600-meter relay team of Duff, Hannah Dillon, Brielle Jackson and Hornback.
The 3,200 team of Duff, Falan Peters, Ella Johnston and Jackson took third to advance to the state meet.
