

Northside High School was the site of the Blue Ridge District track meet last Wednesday, May 14, with the Lord Botetourt boys finishing fourth and the girls taking fifth. William Byrd High School won both the boys and girls team championships.
Botetourt had some outstanding performances. Caleb Miller was second in the 110 hurdles and broke the school record with a time of 14.65. That 110 time qualified him for the New Balance Nationals and Caleb also finished third in the 300 hurdles.
Eric Duncan took second in the 800 in 2:09.58 and ran on two relay teams that scored. The 4×800 team finished first in 8:38.15 with Duncan, Lucas Carswell, Joel Butler and Preston Vaughn. The 4×400 team took third with Duncan, Miller, Daniel Estep and Kamden Umber. Vaughan also took second in the 1,600.

Joel Butler took fifth in the 800 and Thomas Mattarocchia was fifth in the 3,200. Jackson Harless was fifth in the shot put.
For the girls, Ratie Jensen was fifth in the 100 hurdles and Madeleine Gantzhorn was fifth in the 300 hurdles. Jenson also took a fourth in the high jump and sixth in the 300 hurdles.
LB’s 4×100 relay team was third. That consisted of Janai Compton, Caylin Barrett, Morgan Wilmer and Jensen.
Also scoring were Lois Frederickson with a fourth in the pole vault, Gantzhorn with a fifth in the 300 and a sixth in the long jump, and sixth places by Wilmer in the 200 and Maddie Moore in the 800.
The Region 3D track meet is scheduled for Thursday, May 29, at Christiansburg High School.
