The Lord Botetourt boys basketball team saw their season come to an end last week with a 52-45 loss to William Byrd in the first round of the Blue Ridge District tournament.
Dylan Maclachlan led LB with 13 points and freshman Tanner Selkirk had 11 for the Cavs. With the loss Botetourt finished the season at 3-19 and failed to qualify for the Region 3D tournament.
“Most people on the outside judge success of a season on wins and losses,” said Cavaliers’ coach Chad Conner. “However, I feel that this team was successful in a different way. If you watched our guys play, you would never be able to guess what our record was. They never gave up in any game or on the season. They played just as hard in February as they did back in December. Words cannot say how proud I am of that. That type of mentality will take these guys a long way, not just in basketball, but in life.”
Botetourt had three sophomores, two freshmen and three other first year players on the team.
“With the exception of one freshman who was injured all season, they all played a lot of minutes and gained a lot of valuable experience for the future,” said Conner. “I’m very excited for the future of the program.”
