The final round of the Blue Ridge District tour of golf “mini-matches” was scheduled to conclude Tuesday with a round at Hanging Rock, hosted by Northside. At that time LB will officially be the BRD regular season champ.
The Cavaliers had won every round to that point and had an overall 49-stroke edge over second place Franklin County heading into the final match. William Byrd was third, Staunton River was fourth, Northside fifth and William Fleming was sixth.
Last week at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club the Cavaliers increased their lead with a 306 to Franklin’s 314. Byrd was third with 334.
Botetourt’s Samir Davidov tied Byrd’s Bryce Corkery for medalist honors as both shot 71. Also scoring for LB were Kaitlyn Mosdell at 76, Jake Koffman with 79, Logan Hollandsworth with an 80 and Kyle Lograsso carded 85. Ashton Harper, who is third in the overall individual standings, did not play.
“I was really pleased with Jake and Logan, who shot their best rounds in an actual match,” said LB coach Todd Smith.
While Botetourt is a lock to win the regular season team match, Davidov and Corkery are one and two and very close in the individual race. Harper is third overall and Mosdell is fourth.
Next Monday, September 23, LB will host the Blue Ridge District tournament at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club. While 10 of 12 region teams will make the Region 3D tournament, it’s a chance for someone to take home a team and individual trophy as BRD champ.
