The Botetourt Office of Virginia Cooperative Extension is hosting the eighth annual Botetourt County Fair in a celebration of local agriculture. It will be held at the Buchanan Town Park, Lowe Street, on August 6 and 7.
Friday evening, Aug. 6, exhibits will be taken in and registered and the Botetourt Chamber of Commerce will host a live band and beer garden from 5:30 to 8:3 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 7, free admission gates will open at 9 a.m. and the day’ s festivities will conclude around 4 p.m. The livestock and poultry auction is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday.
Saturday’s activities will include 4-H and FFA Youth Livestock and Poultry Shows, Draft Horse Pull, Homemaking Contests, many agricultural demonstrations (sheep shearing, cow milking, grain milling), local food and product vendors, kids’ activities, and great concessions. Bring a lawn chair to enjoy the horse pull.

While the Youth Livestock and Poultry Shows are only open to 4-H and FFA competitors (see website, BotetourtCountyFair.com for entry information), the Homemaking, Crops, Woodworking, and Photography contests are open to all. There are three divisions, Open (all adults), Youth (ages 9-19), and Cloverbud (ages 5-8).
A full list of all contests can be found on the website, BotetourtCountyFair.com under the “forms” tab. Entries must be registered at the fairgrounds Friday, Aug. 6, between 5-7. Entries must stay on display at the fair until the conclusion of the fair on Saturday at 4 p.m.
