Folks who want to have entries in the Botetourt County Fair should be getting ready. The sixth annual fair is Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10 and 11 at Buchanan Town Park.
As in the past, entries for the Homemaking Division will only be accepted Friday, Aug. 10 from 5-8 p.m. at the fairgrounds on the Town Park. No entries will be accepted on Saturday.
The public is invited to enter a variety of canned and baked goods, jams, eggs, pickles, woodwork, vegetables and crops to be judged. Exhibitors are limited to one entry in any one class. Residents from all counties/cities are eligible to enter, but only Botetourt residents will be eligible for “The Best of Botetourt” award.
Awards will be announced Saturday morning and the entries will be left on display throughout the day.
Fair contest categories include:
- Baked Goods (Cookies, Non-decorated Cakes, Cakes (iced or frosted) Pies, Yeast Breads and Quick Breads)
- Canned Goods (Apple Butter, Jams, Jellies, Preserves, Cucumber Pickles, Other Pickled Items, Relishes, Canned Vegetables, Canned Fruits, Canned Meat, Jerky and Cured Ham/Bacon)
- Liquid Honey
- Needlework and Sewing (Needlework, Sewing—hand and machine, Machine Quilting, Hand Quilting and Miscellaneous)
- Crafts (4-H Camp Craft, Tie-Dye youth and Cloverbud divisions)
- Woodworking (Bird House/Feeder, Furniture and Miscellaneous)
- Photography (B&W Agriculture, B&W Miscellaneous, Color Agriculture and Color Miscellaneous)
- Produce (Sweet Corn, Tomatoes, Squash-Yellow, Zucchini, Peppers, Melons, Potatoes, Vegetable Basket- personal assortment)
- Crops (Grass hay, Non-grass hay, Field Corn, Soybeans on Stalk)
- Eggs (Dozen White, Dozen Brown, Dozen Colored)
A variety of concessions will be available throughout the day on Saturday where kids and adults can learn more about the local agriculture and food producers.
