The Botetourt County Historical Society Inc. has announced the opening of a 60th anniversary display at the Botetourt County Museum of History and Culture in Fincastle. The exhibit opened Monday, Jan. 19, as part of preparations for the museum’s 60th anniversary celebration in November.

The display was curated by Hollins University J-term intern Jenna Kleiber and features artifacts donated within the first year of the museum’s opening. Items include hand-dyed Easter eggs from the 1880s that document their creation dates and the names of their artists.

All artifacts were donated by Botetourt County residents, and visitors may recognize familiar local names included in the exhibit descriptions. The display also features letters, newspaper clippings and photographs that document the organization and establishment of the Botetourt County Historical Society.

Community members are invited to contribute digital or physical copies of photographs depicting Botetourt County landscapes or residents from 1966 in recognition of the anniversary. Visitors may also share memories of the county or the museum by writing in the on-site memory binder.

The anniversary display will remain open through November. The public is encouraged to visit the museum and take part in celebrating Botetourt County’s history and residents.
