Elegant large hutches like this one became popular as early as the 17th century. The wood is beautifully carved and there are six lockable sections. The top is a glass display cabinet that rests on the separate, lower, footed section. It was donated to the Botetourt County Historical Museum through the estate of Joseph “Joe” Benson Buhrman II in 2019. Joe was a charter member of the Botetourt County Historical Society & Museum. He served on the board of directors for more than 50 years and felt strongly about passing forward his collections to the History Museum so that they would be preserved. Today his hutch is upstairs in the new History Museum at 26 East Main Street, Fincastle, for all to enjoy once it is opened.
