“The Collectible Barbie Doll – An Illustrated Guide to Her Dreamy World” is on display for all to see in the Botetourt Museum through the end of January. It was written by Janine Fennick. The past, present and future Barbie exhibit is on loan by Botetourt County Historical Society board members. In 1959, when the first Barbie doll was introduced, it cost $3. Children saved their allowance for months to buy one. In 1962, Barbie bought her first Dream House. It wasn’t until 1974, when the Equal Credit Opportunity Act passed, that women were granted the right to open a bank account on their own. Barbie has held numerous occupations and has worn the latest fashions of the day. She represents every American culture and race. The recent Barbie movie is being seen all over the world.
