Robert Gray of Alexandria donated this 1847-1970 coin to the Botetourt County Museum of History and Culture in 2009. It was created as a souvenir and shows the third Botetourt County Courthouse, which was destroyed by fire on December 15, 1970. A fourth courthouse was completed in 1975 but is soon to be replaced by a larger, more secure building which is scheduled to be completed around July 1, 2027. The BCHS Museum contains drawings, books, photographs and artifacts that help to tell the story of the many courthouses that have been built in Fincastle since Botetourt’s founding in 1770.
