This vintage slipware jug with a cork top was once at the Explore Park in Roanoke. In 2008 the structures and artifacts in storage were no longer needed for exhibition to the public and were deaccessioned. Roanoke College acquired many of the artifacts and donated this jug to the Botetourt County Historical Society, Inc. in 2017. It is unique as slipware pottery because it was decorated with an aqueous mixture of clays and other minerals before it was fired. It is handmade and has a cobalt-glazed bird on a branch for decoration. The Botetourt Museum of History and Culture in Fincastle has a wonderful collection of Botetourt pottery on display.
