This is an elegant covered glass butter dish from 1865. It is on a pedestal and has beaded panels. The dish was donated by Janice Wood Thompson and is displayed in the parlor at the Botetourt County Museum of History and Culture in Fincastle. The dish was made by Jones, Cavitt & Co. in Pittsburg, Pa. It later became Campbell, Jones & Company which produced glass products from 1865-1886. The factory was destroyed by fire in 1891.
