This little pillow (circa 1880) was made in the crazy-patch pattern. It belonged to Ianthey Girty Barnett, who may have received it from her aunt, Ann Fisher, who raised her. Ianthey gave the pillow to her daughter, Bertha Barnett Evans, who gave it to her daughter, Marion Evans Lewis. Marion donated it to the Botetourt History Museum where it is on display. Crazy quilt patterns were designed to display the quilter’s ability to embellish her work on rich velvets, silks and satins with fancy embroidery. Some of the stitching used is the feather stitch. The handwritten date on the gold cloth is “August 19.” The Museum is now open 10-2 every day but Sundays at 26 East Main Street, Fincastle.
