This elegant desk was made in the early 1800s and is the first piece of furniture placed in the Botetourt Museum. It has beautifully turned legs, eight drawers and a leather writing surface. The General James Breckinridge Chapter of the DAR donated it in honor of their former Regent, Mrs. Holman Willis in 1965. This Chapter recreated their namesake’s 1790s law office in the old building directly behind the courthouse and helped make it a museum. Since Mr. Breckinridge left no inventory, his office was depicted as one of a wealthy and prominent attorney.
