This pewter flask belonged to Gen. John Cabell Breckinridge (1821-1875). He was the great-nephew of Gen. James Breckinridge. He represented Kentucky in both Houses of Congress and became the youngest-ever vice president of the United States serving with President James Buchanan from 1857 to 1861. He is also the only vice president to take up arms against the government as a Confederate general during the Civil War (1861-65). Daniel Schorsch donated this flask to the Botetourt County Museum.
