This tool is 14 inches long with a wooden handle at one end and a metal comb at the other end. There are inscriptions on the bottom metal bar that have a date of 1876 and a patent number “ZME 13.” Thanks to the comments posted on the Botetourt County Historical Society & Museum Facebook page, it was determined that this tool is a carpet stretcher. Labels and records are now being updated after the packing and moving of the museum’s many artifacts to 26 East Main Street in Fincastle; open seven days a week.
