DALEVILLE – The Botetourt County Library unveiled a new drop-off/pickup location at the Botetourt Family YMCA here Monday.
“We are happy to be able to bring the library’s presence to the Daleville community,” said Julie Phillips, Library Director. “We’re thrilled to launch a more convenient way for the people in and around the area to pick up and drop off materials.” The YMCA proved to be the ideal partner for enhancing library services and the expanded partnership has been a perfect way to celebrate the Y’s two-year anniversary in Botetourt, she said.
“The Y has been incredibly supportive and helpful during this whole process,” said Jaime Duval, Eagle Rock Library branch manager and YMCA Board member. “It is great that we can have this convenience for the people of Daleville and anyone who travels Route 220 on a regular basis as well as anyone who cannot come to one of our branches during normal curbside hours.”
All Roanoke Valley Libraries patrons can use the service, and YMCA membership is not required for access. Patrons can request materials for pickup at the YMCA by going to RVL.info, placing holds on the materials they want, and selecting “Daleville” as the pickup location.
Once notified that materials have arrived, patrons can drop by the YMCA lobby and pick up their holds from shelves near the Welcome Desk. Materials are bagged and tagged with special user IDs to protect patron privacy. Currently, the YMCA lobby is open for anyone to access on Monday-Friday, 5 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday 1 -6 p.m. Materials can also be dropped off in a transit bin on the same shelves.
“We are excited about this new partnership and are glad to provide a space that will make it easier for people to access library materials,” said Marshall Fedolfi, branch executive of the Botetourt Family YMCA. “Our goal has always been to be a place where people can come together to experience life as a community, and the library is a big part of that.”
Throughout the pandemic, Botetourt County Libraries and the Botetourt Family YMCA have continued services to the community. Nearly all normal services are available at both the Libraries and YMCA, even under adapted circumstances.
“The pandemic has forced us all to find creative workarounds for our normal services,” said Phillips. “But it hasn’t stopped us from being able to serve the community.”
