Botetourt County Public Schools (BCPS) recently announced upcoming back-to-school dates for middle and high school students. Below are details on schedule pick-up, open houses, and orientations. The first regular school day is Thursday, August 8.
Middle Schools
Central Academy Middle School
Schedule Pick-up Days: CAMS Schedule Pick-up Days are Thursday, July 25, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., or Friday, August 2, from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Open House: There will also be an open house opportunity for parents and students to meet their teachers during the schedule pick-up opportunity on Friday, August 2 from 1- 4 pm.
6th-grade Transition Day: On August 5, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., sixth-grade students will spend part of their day at CAMS to ensure a smooth first day of school. They will have the opportunity to meet their teachers, run through their class schedule, and participate in fun and engaging activities. Lunch will be provided. Students should be dropped off by 10 a.m. Parents are invited back at 1:30 p.m. for an informational meeting with the administration and the school counselors.
Read Mountain Middle
RMMS will have two dates where students and parents will have the opportunity to pick up schedules, pay fees, and receive help with back-to-school forms in Parent-Portal:
- Thursday, July 25, from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.
- Thursday, August 1, from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. (This date/time will also be an open house opportunity for students and parents to meet teachers.)
The 6th grade/new student orientation will be held on Tuesday, August 7. Students will be mailed invitations with their designated tour times.
High Schools
James River High School
Schedule Pick-up/Business Days: JRHS Schedule Pick-up Days are Tuesday, July 30, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., or Monday, August 5, from 1 – 4 p.m. for all JRHS students (grades 9 – 12).
Open House (“Meet your Teachers”): There will also be an open house opportunity for parents and students to meet their teachers during the schedule pick-up opportunity on Monday, August 5, from 1 – 4 p.m.
On Schedule Pick-up/Business Days, students and parents will have the opportunity to pick up schedules, pay class fees ($30), purchase technology insurance ($25), make parking spot selections ($30), purchase Knights Sports Passes, receive help with back-to-school forms in ParentPortal, join the JRHS PTSO (Parent Teacher Student Organization), join the JRHS Athletics Booster Club, purchase spirit wear, ask questions, and more.
Freshmen Orientation: On Tuesday, August 6 at 9 a.m., we will welcome JRHS ninth graders for Freshmen Orientation. Freshmen should be dropped off before 9 a.m. and picked up at 12 p.m..
Lord Botetourt High School
Business Days: LBHS Business Days are Friday, July 26 and Friday, August 2, from 1 – 4 p.m. for all LBHS students grades 9 – 12.
Open House (“Meet your Teachers”): There will also be an open house opportunity for parents and students to meet their teachers during the scheduled pick-up opportunity on Friday, August 2 from 1 – 4 p.m.
During Business Days, students and parents will have the opportunity to pick up schedules, pay fees and purchase technology insurance, secure a parking permit, purchase an LBHS Athletic Pass, receive help with back-to-school forms in ParentPortal (Power School Registration), join the LBHS PTSO (Parent Teacher Student Organization), join the Cavalier Athletic Club, and/or purchase spirit wear, ask questions, and more.
Freshmen Orientation: The LBHS Freshman Transition Program is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7, from 8:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
8:15 a.m. to 9 a.m., students will exchange their current Chromebook for their new Chromebook. From 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., students will participate in the transition program. Parents are invited to an informational meeting from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
