Botetourt County Public Schools (BCPS) recognized excellence in teaching during its annual Teacher of the Year Banquet, held Thursday, Dec. 18, at The Hotel Roanoke. The event brought together educators, administrators, and guests to celebrate outstanding teachers from across the school division.
Each school within BCPS selected a Teacher of the Year, and those honorees were formally recognized during the evening. As part of the celebration, each school’s Teacher of the Year received a personalized gift engraved by students at the Botetourt Technical Education Center (BTEC), highlighting collaboration and student involvement across the division.
The evening’s highest honor was the announcement of the Division Teacher of the Year. Madison Lantz, a third grade teacher at Troutville Elementary School, was selected for the distinction. Lantz was recognized for her contributions to education and her positive influence within the school community.
Division Superintendent Dr. Janet Womack shared remarks during the program, noting Lantz’s connection to the school division. “Madison Lantz is a Botetourt graduate, and it was my pleasure to be her principal for part of her high school career,” Womack said. “Her impact extends far beyond her classroom, and we are honored to have her as a voice for educators across our division.”
As Division Teacher of the Year, Lantz will represent BCPS in the Region VI selection process for Virginia’s Mary V. Bicouvaris Teacher of the Year Award. The statewide honor recognizes educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching and leadership within their profession.
BCPS officials emphasized that the annual banquet serves not only to recognize individual achievements, but also to highlight the dedication and professionalism of teachers throughout the division. The event remains a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the role educators play in supporting students and strengthening the community.
