Botetourt County recently shared the results of “Envision Botetourt 2040.” Last spring, the county sought input from the community to update the comprehensive plan. In a press release, the county explained that Envision Botetourt 2040 is the most important document for guiding future land development, growth, and policy in the county. The comprehensive plan sets goals for a variety of planning areas, including transportation, economic development, housing, and future land use, forming the building blocks for enhanced quality of life.
The plan’s content and success depend on engagement with the community, county staff, and elected officials. Put simply, this is your plan, and we wanted the community to be involved. We asked for public input with five surveys: The county wanted input from the community and offered five different surveys to get an idea of where the community stood in the topics of:
- Recreation
- Community Facilities
- Transportation
- Housing
- Future Land Use
The county received over 1,000 responses. To find out more, visit the Botetourt County website at www.botetourtva.gov/comprehensiveplan and by clicking the “Envision 2040” tab. Visitors may choose the story map for a detailed summary.
Over the next few months, Botetourt County staff will be working on drafting the plan and will continue to present chapters of the plan in public meetings to the Planning Commission. Public hearings will also be advertised and held before any action is taken by either the Planning Commission or Botetourt County Board of Supervisors.
