At the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors meeting last week, Fire & EMS Chief Jason Ferguson introduced the newest members of his team to the board after their 20 weeks of training.
Six new recruits graduated from Roanoke Regional Academy No. 28 last week: Kyle Forney, a Blacksburg native and Eagle Scout; Jacob Bonds, a Christiansburg native and Ferrum College graduate; Jacob Gibbs, a Roanoke native and former competition swimmer; Brendon Majors, a Salem native and a bull rider; Jacob Seay, recently graduated from Roanoke College studying biochemistry and playing rugby; and Ross Surrat, who spent 12 years at Norfolk-Southern and sought a career in public safety
Academy No. 28 voted Lt. John Rodgers as a top instructor at the Roanoke Regional Academy.
“These (graduates) will help us bolster the empty seats that we have in order to turn the fire engine in Read Mountain to a 24/7 (operation) out of that station,” Ferguson added.
