The Lord Botetourt girls basketball team will open the 2023 portion of the schedule tonight, Wednesday, when the Cavaliers take on Patrick Henry in Roanoke. It will be a big challenge for the girls as the Patriots are a Class 5 team from the River Ridge District.
LB comes in at 7-2 after winning at Abingdon in the last game before the New Year. Madilyn Winterton had 18 points and four assists as Botetourt raced to a 58-36 win.
“We got out to a slow start but then turned them over to go on a big run and just maintained from there,” said coach Renee Favaro. “It was a great game to get the three freshmen solid game experience.”
Taylor Orange had 15 points for LB and Ainsley Anderson was a third Cavalier in double figures with 15 points and four assists. Abby Kingery had eight points and Bry Orange had a career-high 13 rebounds.
“We face a strong PH team with multiple college-bound players on Wednesday and then open up district play at Byrd on Friday,” said Favaro.
The Cavaliers’ first home game of the new year will be against Northside in Daleville next Tuesday.
