The Lord Botetourt girls dropped a 2-1 decision to Hidden Valley in the Region 3D soccer final Friday, sending them to Monticello to open state soccer play this week.
Results were too late for press deadlines, but if the Cavs won they would advance to state play in Salem this week. The state Class 3 semi-final is scheduled for Friday at Salem High’s Spartan Field, and the LB-Monticello winner will draw the winner of a quarter-final round game between Brentsville and Colonial Heights at 4 p.m. The state championship game is Saturday at Roanoke College at 2:40 p.m.
Botetourt earned a spot in the state tournament with a 5-0 shutout of Staunton River in the Region 3D semifinal at Northside last week. Mary Randall Plunkett and Balor Harold had two goals each for LB and Briana Myers had one.
That win put the Cavs in Friday’s regional championship at Northside, and the Cavaliers lost to Hidden Valley, 2-1. Ally Spangler had LB’s goal off an assist from Briana Myers, but the Cavaliers never could pull even with the Titans.
