The Botetourt 10U All-Star team won the Roanoke Youth Softball Association (RAYSA) tournament last week, with games held at the James I. Moyer Complex in Salem and Darrell Shell Park in South Roanoke County. There were also tournaments for 13U and 17U teams.
The Botetourt 10U team won the first three games of the tournament, defeating South County, Salem and North Roanoke at the Moyer Complex. That put them into Thursday’s championship, needing to win one of two against Salem, who came out of the losers’ bracket. Salem won the first game but Botetourt bounced back to win the “if game” and take the championship.
In the 13U tournament Botetourt opened with a win over GSA before losing to South County-Hendrix. Botetourt beat Vinton in their first losers’ bracket game but lost their next game and were eliminated. Salem won the tournament.
In the 17U tournament Salem and Botetourt had a combined team. They lost their opener to South County but bounced back with a win over Clifton Forge. They were then knocked out by South County as Franklin County went on to win the tournament.
This week Botetourt 10U and 12U teams are playing in the Roanoke Area Youth Baseball Association (RAYBA) tournaments at Green Hill Park in West Roanoke County. Action was scheduled to begin Monday but inclement weather moved the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday games back a day, with championship games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
