The Botetourt Golf & Swim Club was scheduled to play host to the annual Botetourt Metro Tournament on Tuesday of this week.

The tournament was not over at press time, but results will be included in next week’s sports section. Most of the teams from the Roanoke Valley were expected to attend, including James River and Lord Botetourt.

James River had a match scheduled for Monday of this week at the Radford River Course but that was rained out. Last Thursday they played in a Three Rivers District match at the Olde Mill Course, hosted by Carroll County, and Floyd County was the easy winner with a score of 320. Radford was next at 353 and James River took third among the six teams with a 365. Rounding out the day were Glenvar at 381, host Carroll at 410 and Alleghany at 435.

River’s best score was an 83 by Ryan Steger, which was good for fourth place overall. McKenzie Weddle of Floyd was medalist with a 71.

Also scoring for River were Dylan Hicks at 85, Sam Bell at 95 and Haden Parker at 102.

“Thursday was a little rough,” said coach Donna Cox. “We fell off a little bit after Ryan and Dylan.”

The Knights are at Floyd for a district match Monday, August 15. LB is at Franklin County for a match on Thursday of this week at Copper Cove. Next Tuesday the Cavaliers are at Ole Monterey in Roanoke for a match hosted by William Fleming.
