The Lord Botetourt golfers held on to second place in the Blue Ridge District regular season standings with a second place finish in last week’s round at the Copper Cove course. The 18-hole round was hosted by Franklin County.
The host Eagles maintained their BRD lead with a team score of 306. LB was second at 315 followed by William Byrd at 324, Northside at 341 and Staunton River at 395.
“It was a fairly good day at Copper Cove,” said LB coach Todd Smith. “Not a great day, but we are still in second place in the standings.”
Botetourt’s Garrett Honts tied for medalist at Copper Cove with a one-over-par 73, the same as Franklin’s Nick Messenger. Alisa Davidova shot a 75 for the Cavaliers and also scoring were Cole Cecil at 80 and Derek Bond at 87. After two rounds Davidova is in second place individually a shade behind Messenger in the BRD scoring system. Honts is close behind in third place.
Teamwise, Franklin leads with a two round score of 615. Botetourt is second at 315 and the next round was scheduled for Hanging Rock on Tuesday.
“Hopefully we can keep playing better and make up some ground at Hanging Rock,” said Smith. “They are gaining experience every match, and hopefully a little bit of confidence as well.”
