It was just the first match of the season but the Lord Botetourt High School golfers looked to be in mid-season form in last week’s Blue Ridge District opening “mini-match.” Botetourt had the top three scores for the round and shot 29 strokes better than second place Franklin County.
The opening round was played at the Westlake Golf Club in Hardy, a par 67 course. Botetourt’s Samir Davidov shot even par for the round and Ashton Harper was second on the day, two strokes over at 69. Kaitlyn Mosdell was third at 71.
The next two Cavaliers tied for seventh to round out the scoring, as Jake Koffman and Dylan Salvi both carded 78. Botetourt’s sixth player, Trey Sharp, was 14th among 28 players with an 89.
As a team the Cavaliers shot 285 for just 17 over par overall among the top four scorers. Franklin County was second at 314, 46 over, while Northside was third at 340, William Byrd shot 370 and Staunton River carded a team total of 377.
“I would say it was a good start for the season,” said LB coach Todd Smith. “The kids were anxious to get back to some competition golf and I think they handled themselves well. It wasn’t our best outing, but I think they were pleased, since it was the first match.”
The next round is scheduled for today at Blue Hills, beginning at 1 p.m.
