This fall, the Botetourt County Rotary Club teamed up with The Bank of Fincastle to co-sponsor The Bank of Fincastle Virtual 5K Run/Walk. As part of the virtual 5K, each participant was provided with a registration packet and items including an official custom 5K Run/Walk T-shirt. Botetourt Rotary Club members sold sponsorship advertisements on the back of the T-shirt to local businesses and individuals, a first in the history of the 34-year-old event. With a lot of hard work, the club was successful in raising funds to support area food banks.
“The Botetourt County Rotary Club sincerely appreciates The Bank of Fincastle offering us the opportunity to co-sponsor this year’s virtual 5K,” noted Dr. Angie Anderson, club president.
On November 18, two checks were presented to local food banks, Feeding Southwest Virginia and the Botetourt Food Pantry. Each organization received $1,750. In the near future, another $500 will be presented to Solomon’s Mission in Buchanan.
“The Botetourt Rotary Club is grateful to each business and individual who participated in The Bank of Fincastle Virtual 5K Run/Walk 2020 T-shirt sponsorships. Your sponsorships will provide hundreds of meals to citizens in our community,” said Lethia Hammond, club president-elect.
The Botetourt Rotary Club meets each first and third Wednesday at noon at Bellacino’s in Daleville. Meeting participants practice safe social distancing and mask requirements. For anyone wishing to attend the meeting virtually, a WebEx link is available upon request.
