Each fall runners of all ages participate in The Bank of Fincastle Fall Run, the largest annual event held in historic Fincastle. The Bank of Fincastle is in its 34th year of sponsoring this event, which is designed to encourage good health and physical fitness starting at a young age. This year, the Botetourt Rotary Club will co-sponsor the event by selling T-shirt sponsorships, which allow businesses and sponsors to have their logo appear on either a 3×3, 2×2 or single line listing on each T-shirt. Monies raised from the T-shirt sponsorships will benefit the St. Mark’s Food Pantry and Feeding America.

“The Botetourt Rotary Club is honored to partner with The Bank of Fincastle to co-sponsor the 34th Annual Fall Run,” said Angie Anderson, president of the Botetourt Rotary Club. “COVID-19 has impacted many businesses in our area and left many residents unemployed. The Botetourt Rotary Club has selected the St. Mark’s Food Pantry and Feeding American as recipients of the sponsorship money so that we can help local residents weather this unprecedented time in our history. Your sponsorship will help us help others.” Anderson concluded.

To purchase a T-shirt sponsorship, contact Anderson at serenitycounselingcenter@verizon.net. The deadline for purchasing a T-shirt sponsorship is September 1.

This year, due to health considerations necessitated by the COVID-19 virus, runners will participate virtually. This format allows runners to train and run on their own, while maintaining social distancing guidelines. Runners will be allowed to run any time and at any location between October 1 at 9 a.m. and October 17 at 5 p.m. All participants who register will receive instructions on how to submit their time and distance results. New this year, each race participant will receive a customized, performance wicking, long-sleeve T-shirt and trophies will be presented to each school in the district with the greatest number and percentage of student runners.

“Although a few race details have changed this year, the most important aspects remain the same,” noted Lethia Hammond, president-elect of the Botetourt Rotary. “The Bank of Fincastle will continue to provide two $1,000 scholarships to students from James River and Lord Botetourt High School. Local elementary and middle schools will practice for the Fall Run by working on endurance, setting goals and team building, and the importance of parent encouragement and participation is greater than ever,” continued Hammond.
