The Lord Botetourt softball team hit five home runs in a 22-1 win over William Fleming in Roanoke last week. The Cavaliers stayed unbeaten at 2-0 with the win.
Hailey Deter, Rhyann Jones, Makena Shupe, Jackson Kemper and Halle Reese all went yard for the Cavs. Deter, Shupe and freshman Jackson hit back-to-back-to-back home runs for LB.
Botetourt banged out 20 hits overall. Reese and Jones had four hits each while Deter and Jones each drove in five runs on the day. Gianna Sloan-Lebron had three hits while Reese and Deter each scored four times.
Jones had three doubles in addition to her home run and also got the win on the mound. Rhyann pitched all four innings before the game was stopped due to the mercy rule. She allowed two hits and just one unearned run while striking out nine of a possible 12 outs. Jones threw 57 pitches, of which 45 were strikes.
“We were quite successful but we have some challenges coming up with Byrd and Staunton River,” said LB coach Cheryl Shockley.
The Cavs were scheduled to play at William Byrd, the defending Class 3 state champion, in Vinton on Tuesday. LB is back home Friday to host Staunton River.
