The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office met with local senior citizens at its most recent Senior Social at Fincastle Baptist Church last Friday. Sheriff Matt Ward stated that he was pleased in “an amazing turnout” when asked about the quarterly Botetourt event. Botetourt County Fire & EMS Chief Jason Ferguson served as the event’s guest speaker providing a brief presentation on smoke alarms and home safety tips.
“It was heartening to see such a strong community presence and so many community members come together to support in our efforts to eliminate senior fraud,” Botetourt County Sheriff Matt Ward said. “Together we can make a significant impact in safeguarding our seniors from fraud and provide them with the essential services needed to lead independent lives.”
Seniors learned about the many services and resources available that will assist them in living independent lives which included information about daily well-being checks (Senior Connect), general health, and financial well-being.
Local government representatives and senior services were in attendance to give advice and help seniors navigate their future needs. Those services included: The Glebe, Valley Medicare Solutions, Solomon’s Mission, Cora Physical Therapy, Roanoke Area Youth Substance Abuse Coalition, Sentara Health Plans, Congressman Ben Cline’s Office, InnovAge, Jay Kilby, Botetourt County, Botetourt Sheriff’s Office, Bank of Botetourt, Carilion Clinic, Gentle Shepherd Hospice, Virginia Department of Veterans Services, LifeNet Health, and Local Offices on Aging.
The next Senior Social will take place November 24, 2024, at Fincastle Baptist Church.
