The Greenfield Recreation Complex in Daleville will be the site of the Blue Ridge Invitational cross country meet this Saturday. Botetourt County schools Lord Botetourt and James River will be the host teams for the big meet.
Action begins at 9:30 a.m. with an Open 5K race. At 10:30 a.m. there will be a girls 3K middle school race, followed by a boys middle school 3K race at 11:15 a.m. The first varsity race will feature the girls and it’s a 5K scheduled to start at noon, followed by the boys varsity 5K race at 12:45 p.m. The day will conclude with jayvee races, with the girls at 1:30 p.m. and the boys at 2:15 p.m. Both jayvee races are 5K.
It will be a big day, with over 30 schools entered. Included are Altavista Combined School, Benjamin Franklin Middle School, Bland County, Broadway, Carroll County, Christiansburg, Eastern Mennonite School, Franklin County, Giles, Glenvar, Grace Christian School, James Breckinridge Middle School, James Madison Middle School, James River, Jefferson Christian Academy, John P. Fishwick Middle School, Lord Botetourt, Lucy Addison Middle School, Maury River Middle School, Northside High School, Patrick Henry, Pulaski County, Riverheads, Rockbridge County, Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy, Southwest Virginia Academy, Stafford High School, William Byrd High School, William Campbell Combined School, William Fleming, and Woodrow Wilson Middle School.
The Lord Botetourt team is coming off a sweep of the Cougar Clash in Pulaski County last Saturday. The girls were first with Cave Spring second and Blacksburg third, while the boys won with Pulaski County second and Blacksburg third.
Lord Botetourt’s Ella Johnston was the overall winner of the girls race. Also scoring for LB were Sydney Vokus in third, Karley Burks in eighth, Hatlyn Haggerty in ninth and Alexa Carillo in 17th.
In the boys race Evan Gates took second to lead the Cavaliers. Cole Stelter was fourth, Rye Jackson was sixth, Carter Hudson was seventh and Aiden Dietrich was 13th.
Ethan Thorne of Read Mountain won the middle school race, while Landon Hayes was second, Blake Peery was third and Bridger Harold took fourth. In the jayvee combined boys and girls race Jacob Malue was sixth, Jonah Clark was seventh, Molly Caldwell was 13th, Kent Basham was 14th and Falan Peters was 16th.
Lord Botetourt is scheduled to run in a four-team meet today at the Salem Golf Course with Glenvar, Cave Spring and host Salem.
