The Lord Botetourt and Franklin County volleyball teams split their regular season matches during the season and both finished with 7-1 Blue Ridge District records. Tonight the two will meet again to decide who the district champion is and it will be done the right way, on the court.

Franklin County will host LB at 6 p.m. tonight in the BRD tournament final. The Eagles have the home advantage because they finished with the better overall record during the regular season, although that was also close. Franklin finished 14-5 overall while LB was 14-6.

Last Wednesday both schools won tournament semifinal games at home. Franklin County eased by Northside while LB hosted William Byrd and took a win in three sets, 25-22, 25-14 and 25-15.

Nora Spickard had 13 kills, 10 digs and three aces to lead the Cavaliers. Julianna Stephenson had 10 kills, 23 digs and an ace. Emma Rice had six kills, five blocks and a pair of aces and Claire Dozier had five kills and a block. Skylar Morris dished out 31 assists and Anna Dewease had 18 digs and three aces.

Regardless of tonight’s outcome, the Cavaliers will advance to Region 3D play next week. Sites and opponents have yet to be determined but Franklin County, a Class 6 school, won’t be involved. However, River Ridge District champ Hidden Valley will be in the field after finishing the regular season 21-2, including two wins over Franklin County.
