FINCASTLE – The Lord Botetourt girls gave up the first goal but rallied to take a 3-1 win over William Byrd in Vinton last week. The game was the Blue Ridge District opener for both.
Byrd led 1-0 at the half on a goal by Katie Abelseth. The Terriers forced the action on their home pitch.

“We didn’t play well in the first half,” said LB coach Jamie Bednarek. “Byrd outplayed us. They were always about a step quicker to the ball.”
The Cavaliers came out with a purpose in the second half.
“We switched a couple things around,” said Bednarek. “We moved some people around and the girls played much better.”
Kennedi VanRavestein got the Cavs on the board and evened the score on a direct kick just outside the box. Then Gretchen Goldstein scored what proved to be the game winner on a throw in from Jade Lewis. Kristi Bowman scored an insurance goal and the Cavaliers held Byrd to just three shots after intermission to ice the win.
Now 4-0-1, LB is off this week, returning to action April 17 with a home game against Rockbridge.
