Nancy Anne Bourne, 85, of Troutville, died peacefully on October 25, 2024. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many.

Nancy, the eldest of five children, was born on August 26, 1939 to the late Dr. George and Dorothy Taxis Bourne in Roanoke. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1958. She furthered her education at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg and continued at Smith College in Northampton, Mass., earning her master’s degree in social work. Nancy’s professional career began as a dedicated social worker at Johns Hopkins Hospital and followed at several different social work agencies.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents; sister, Edith B. Paderick; brothers, Andrew and Edwin Bourne; and nephew, Andrew Bourne.

Left to cherish Nancy’s memory are her brother, George S. Bourne Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M.; three nephews, George S. Bourne III (Tracy) of Richmond, Edwin Paderick (Pam) of Troutville, Brandon Bourne (Stacey) of Roanoke; two nieces, Nancy A. Parrish of Blue Ridge, and Kristin Bourne of Anguilla. The family would like to acknowledge the unwavering friendship that Karen Willis provided Nancy and the family for over 50 years.

Nancy enjoyed the arts, music, reading, visiting museums, but most of all enjoyed having dinner with family and friends at various restaurants.

A memorial donation may be made in Nancy’s name to the League for Animal Protection (LAP) in Fincastle. A gathering for family and friends will be held at Kyle House in Fincastle on Saturday, November 9 from 2-5 p.m. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home, Peters Creek Chapel, (540) 366-0707.
