Brigadier General Scott Paul Van Cleef, USAF Ret., 71 of Fincastle, passed away suddenly Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Scott was born February 21, 1950 in Salina, Kansas and lived in Botetourt for the past 18 years. He served with distinction in The United States Air Force for 29 ½ years, retiring as a Brigadier General. In retirement, Scott owned Van Cleef Fine Woodworking, and was active in the Air Force Association, MOAA, and Civilian Air Patrol.
Preceded in death by his father, Paul L. Van Cleef, Scott is survived by his wife, Barbara Van Cleef; daughters, April (Bill) Richards and Crystal Van Cleef (Jaison Norris); grandchildren, Evan Norris, Alex Richards, Logan Norris, Connor Richards, Aidan Van Cleef, and Caitlin Richards; his mother, Dorothy L. Wells Van Cleef; sisters: Martha Van Cleef, Sharon (Bob) Moreen, and Joyce Van Cleef.
A celebration of Scott’s life was held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 26 at Rader Funeral Home, Daleville, with Pastor Charles Miller officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by The United States Air Force Honor Guard will be at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin. The family received friends at the funeral home 2-5 p.m. Sunday.
