A free community event took place on Saturday, June 21, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wilson Warehouse/Community House at 421 Lowe Street in Buchanan. Attendees enjoyed an afternoon of music, storytelling, and light refreshments.
Cheryl Sullivan Willis gave the event’s statement of purpose. Kathy Johnson read the Emancipation Proclamation before Teresa Hamm provided musical entertainment. Roblyn Brand of the Historic Greenfield Advisory Council told the story of “Jack, Enslaved in Botetourt County.” Additionally, Curtis Brown presented guests with information about History of Jeanes teacher L.M. Gibbs.
