Buchanan Lions donate to ‘Bobcat Challenge’ fundraiser
The Buchanan Elementary School PTA has recently been collecting money with their “Bobcat Challenge” fundraising event. The Buchanan Lions Club heard about it, and voted to support this local event. The Lions’ motto, “We Serve,” went right along with honoring those who have served the country, so the donation of $1,000 was presented in front of the student body, staff, and guests at the school’s Veterans Day Assembly on November 8.
Club holds an English Tea fundraiser
The Buchanan Lions Club held its Second Annual English Tea and Silent Auction fundraiser on Sunday, October 20. The event was a huge success and was attended by a bevy of beauties from 4 to 92.
The four-course tea consisted of Lion Pride Chicken Pot Pie, a variety of tea sandwiches, scones and desserts including Black Forest Trifle cups. Two special teas, Earl Grey from Taylors of Harrogate in London and Blackberry Sage from the Republic of Tea were served.
The event was held at the Buchanan Community House which provided the perfect atmosphere to enjoy a special afternoon. This event could not have been put on without hours of preparation and donations from both Lions Club members and community members. Tea organizers thank all of them for their dedication and belief in the idea of “community service” and the Buchanan Lions.
Lions support JRHS Band
The Buchanan Lions heard a local whisper that said the James River High School Band might need some financial assistance. Some instruments to be replaced, or repaired, possible uniform needs– “it didn’t make a difference to us. That’s what we’re for. ‘We Serve’ is, after all, our motto,” said a Buchanan Lion.
“After successfully running Bingo at the Buchanan Carnival this last summer, we were able to devote some profits to the band. We met Band Director Robert Chaplin on the football field at the James River half-time at the October 25 game and presented him with a check for $1,000.”
