Buchanan Presbyterian Church’s new pastor, the Rev. Donna Hopkins Britt, will conduct her first pastoral service this Sunday, June 4.
Britt has previously preached at Buchanan Presbyterian, filling in for the former pastor, the Rev. Matthew Aldas. Britt has spent the last few years teaching child abuse prevention at Children’s Trust, an organization focusing on public education outreach and children’s advocacy, and is a chaplain at Gentiva Hospice.
Prior to that, Britt served as pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Roanoke as an associate pastor and then senior pastor for nearly 20 years. Following her time at Calvary, she and her family attended Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church, where she met Aldas.
“It’s exciting,” Britt said in a recent interview. “I’m starting as a stated supply, learning more about the church and the presbytery over the next year.”
Donna’s husband Brian has worked in the IT and Operations Department of WBDJ-7 for the last 35 years. Their children, Noah and Lauren, both attend James Madison University.
Buchanan Presbyterian Church is located at 19559 Main Street. Sunday worship services begin at 11 a.m. To learn more, visit buchananpresbyterian.org.
