Aidan Scott Calkins, 18, our beloved son and brother, died on Monday, March 18, 2024.
Aidan was born on May 11, 2005 in McCall, Ind., a small mountain community where he spent most of his youth. He was athletic and loved hockey, cross-country skiing, and mountain biking with friends. Aidan travelled with his hockey team all over the Western United States and Canada.
The family moved to Fincastle, where he finished his last two years of high school at James River. During this time, he formed lifelong relationships with his high school friends, co-workers, and fellow hockey players with the Lynchburg Coyotes and Raleigh Raptors.
After his graduation, he completed a rigorous flight school program at Blue Line Aviation near Raleigh receiving accolades for his skill and dedication. He was there less than six months but made such great friends there that continued after graduation. Upon returning to Fincastle, he worked at Food Lion before starting a bachelor’s degree program in aviation.
Aidan is survived by his parents, Gary and Amy; sister, Haley; and grandparents, Norman and Sue Terando as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and dog, Snoopy. Aidan was an amazing son and little brother and a bright light in our lives. His absence will be felt forever. He brought joy and laughter to all the lives he touched.
