On June 8, 1968, Louis Wayne Patrick and Shirley Mae Campbell were married at the Church of Latter-Day Saints in Buena Vista. After serving in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1967-1971, Wayne joined the Virginia State Police, and the couple moved to Botetourt County in 1972. Wayne and Shirley lived in Cloverdale, where they raised their two children, Beth and Michael. Wayne worked as a Virginia State Trooper for 28 years, and he retired in 1999. Shirley worked for Virginia Plastics Company for 14 years. They were active members of Cloverdale Church of the Brethren for many years before they relocated to Boones Mill in 2006. They now attend Cedar Bluff Church of the Brethren in Boones Mill. Wayne and Shirley have five grandchildren: Caleb, Nathan, and Anna Hodges, and Miles and Afton Patrick. The Patricks will celebrate their golden anniversary with their children and grandchildren on a family beach vacation.
