Caroline Bowman Firebaugh of Daleville went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 28, 2020.
She was born in Botetourt County on April 17, 1926. Caroline was the last remaining child of the late George Theodore Bowman and Blanche Layman Bowman.
Caroline had an artistic ability and loved painting, tending to her flowers, reading, and traveling. She joined the Home Demonstration Club and was a leader of the 4-H Club.
Caroline married her beloved husband, William C. “Calvin” Firebaugh, at the historic Rustic Lodge in Troutville, where she grew up. This blessed union resulted in a daughter they adored, Rose Anne Firebaugh Brewer.
Caroline was a member of the Fincastle United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Auxiliary at the VFW Post 1841 where Calvin was a member. Caroline’s early career consisted of being a colorist for the N.W. Pugh Company until she became a full-time homemaker. She later joined the J.C. Penney Company in marketing, sales, and cosmetology from which she later retired.
Caroline and Calvin were truly best friends. Caroline cherished her time spent at the cabin on Craig Creek, which she and Calvin built. They shared many wonderful experiences together such as embarking on trips across the country. They visited almost all 50 states and saw beautiful sites and had many great adventures along the way.
Caroline touched many lives and made a difference. Caroline’s beautiful life will be forever cherished by her family and friends who loved her dearly and are eternally grateful. Her family takes consolation that she is now at peace with the Lord in Heaven and with her loving husband, Calvin, and her predeceased family members.
Caroline’s family on earth will greatly miss her joyous presence in their lives, daughter, Rose Anne (Don) Brewer; grandchildren, Kimberly (Christian) Esparza and Adam (Lynn) Brewer; great-grandchildren, Kristopher, Carson, Andrew, Ashlyn, and Grace; and many wonderful and devoted nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services will be held at a later date due to COVID-19 restrictions.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Troutville Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 609, Troutville, 24175.
