The Cavalier Athletic Club, supporting athletics at Lord Botetourt High School, awarded scholarships to five LB student athletes this month.
The five graduating seniors will each receive $500 scholarships. Included are Kenleigh Gunter, Mary-Randall Plunkett, Meredith Wells, Miette Veldman and James-Ryan Salvi.
Gunter played basketball, volleyball and softball for the Cavaliers. She’ll play volleyball at Randolph College.
Plunkett was on the LB soccer and volleyball teams. Mary-Randall will be attending the University of Tennessee in the fall.
Wells was a guard on the basketball team and a pitcher for the LB softball team. She’ll be joining the James Madison University softball team when action resumes on the collegiate diamonds.
Veldman was the three-time state Player of the Year in volleyball and a first team all-state basketball player for LB. She’ll continue her education at James Madison University and play on the volleyball team.
Salvi was a football and basketball player at LB. He’s headed to Hampden-Sydney College, where he’ll play football.
These scholarships were made possible by community donations, concessions and Cavalier Athletic Club membership. Todd Selkirk is president and other board members include Alicia Lovern-vice president, Amanda Johnson-treasurer, Julie Johnson-secretary, Beth Cross and Angela Myers-membership and Jen Deeter-director.
