The Lord Botetourt boys soccer team has two big Blue Ridge District games this week as they look to stay near the top of the district standings. LB was 4-2 in the BRD prior to Tuesday’s home game with William Byrd, and Friday they head to Roanoke to take on William Fleming.
After dropping a 7-1 decision to a strong River Ridge District opponent in Christiansburg last week the Cavs bounced back with a district win in Moneta Friday, 6-2. Isaac Alderman got things going for the Cavaliers with a volley off Robbie Sanchez’s corner kick. Alderman then netted his second goal of the evening when Kalob Daniels drove the left side of the field and found Alderman at the penalty kick line. Staunton River answered to make it 2-1 at the half in LB’s favor.
The Cavaliers started the second half with Will Hall beating the back line to find the back of the net on a breakaway. Sanchez then found Hall for his second goal of the half to give LB a 4-1 lead.
Jeremy Simmons scored off a throw from Josh Dickerson to make it 5-1, then Hall finished off a big night with his third goal to give him a “hat trick” on a long shot from the right side. River scored a late inconsequential goal for the 6-2 final.
