The high school soccer season opened in Lynchburg for the Lord Botetourt boys and the Cavalier were able to pick up a win. LB beat Heritage High in overtime, 1-0.
After a scoreless battle through regulation the two teams went extra minutes in an exciting battle to open the season. Botetourt got the win when Isiah Lankford scored in the final 30 seconds on a free kick. Coach Taylor Leonard hopes that’s a sign of big things to come.
“We are very excited to get things going this season,” he said. “We have 21 players this season on the varsity roster with eight of them being seniors. We will have a senior-heavy starting lineup, but this a great opportunity for the other 12 juniors and one sophomore to develop with this strong senior class.”
The Cavaliers are back in action Friday with a trip to Abingdon. The girls were scheduled to open at home with Blacksburg on Tuesday followed by a home game with Patrick Henry on Thursday.
