The Lord Botetourt girls saw their soccer season come to an end with a loss in the Virginia High School League Class 3 state quarterfinal last week. The Cavaliers lost to Western Albemarle High in Crozet, 5-0.
The Warriors jumped to a 2-0 lead by intermission, then put three more goals on the board in the second half to pull away. Western Albemarle earned the right to host the game by winning the Region 3C championship while LB came in as the Region 3D runner-up.
With the win the Warriors improved to 18-1 and advanced to the state semifinal, where they beat previously undefeated Lafayette High School, 3-0. Western Albemarle played Brentsville District in the Class 3 final and lost 2-1 to the Tigers as Brentsville claimed the state championship.
Lord Botetourt finished the season with a 15-7 record. The Cavaliers graduated seven seniors off this year’s team.
“I’m very proud of the girls for a great season,” said LB coach Giuseppe D’Arpa. “We started out the season with high expectations and we came so close, ending in the state quarterfinals. We are losing a great senior class and wish them the best in their future endeavors.
“We have a very talented upcoming senior class. Our future looks great and hopefully we can have another same or even better 24-25 season.”
