The Lord Botetourt softball team will be in Ridgeway tonight to open the Region 3D tournament. The Cavaliers will play Magna Vista with the first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
Botetourt comes into the tournament with an 8-13 record after dropping their last two games of the regular season. The Cavs defeated Northside last Tuesday, 9-2, but fell to Cave Spring and Franklin County in a very busy week to wrap up the regular season.
The girls lost a close one at Cave Spring, 6-5. Botetourt out-hit the host Knights, 6-5, but Cave Spring came from behind to pull out the win.
Autumn Russell led LB with two hits, including a home run in the seventh inning. Callie Kidd and Gracie Sargent had two RBIs each. Olivia Pierce pitched and allowed just three earned runs while striking out 11.
Last Thursday was Senior Night and a strong Franklin County team took a 12-2 win. Botetourt has just two seniors, Russell and Maya Mougin.

“We suffered another incredibly difficult loss against Franklin County,” said LB coach Megan Cook. “The only thing I will say about that game and our performance is that I am proud of how our team handled themselves. Despite disrespectful and negative behaviors from the other team, our girls displayed class and character during the game and events that followed. As a coach, I frequently emphasize the importance of showing respectful and graceful behavior more than talent or skill. It is more crucial than wins.”
The All-Blue Ridge team was announced this week and Russell was named to the first team and was chosen District Player of the Year. Mougin and Kidd were named to the second team.
